May 2006 Highlights:

    WiRED Makes Headlines - Worldwide

The best way to let people know about WiRED International - and the ways in which it is benefiting doctors and medical students in developing and war-affected nations - is to spread the word through as many media outlets as possible. WiRED's volunteers issue news releases and articles that are posted online or sent to supporters who subscribe to our monthly newsletter (just like this one). Our volunteers are also getting a little help from international organizations, media professionals, and newspapers that are taking an interest in WiRED's work. Below are just some examples of WiRED in the worldwide media.

    • The Black Issues in Higher Education magazine printed a story in April 2005 entitled "Exporting technology to war-torn regions: with the help from a San Francisco State professor, medical-information centers are changing the face of Iraqi medicine."

    • The New Light Of Myanmar, an official daily newspaper for Myanmar (or Burma), reported on February 20, 2004, that The International Organization for Migration (IOM) signed an agreement with WiRED International to provide computer technology and training to medical students and health professionals in Iraq.

    • Both and the published the article, "Paradox Amid the Rubble," by WiRED Executive Director Gary Selnow, which describes the Iraqi will to pursue higher education despite the effects of war.

    • StudentBMJ.com, a website owned by the BMJ Publishing Group Limited, a private limited company incorporated in the United Kingdom, published an articled titled, "Medical teaching in war-torn Iraq," explaining what WiRED is doing to help Iraqi medical students.
